In plain terms. This law helps federal agencies adopt artificial intelligence by creating a center of expertise and assigning agencies to guide AI use across government.

Who it applies to. Federal agencies adopting AI, supported by the General Services Administration (GSA) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

What it requires.

  • It established an AI Center of Excellence within GSA to speed and coordinate federal adoption of AI.
  • GSA and OMB must give agencies technical insight and expertise when they acquire AI technology.
  • The Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy must develop a federal policy for national AI research and investment.

Why it matters. It builds the federal government's in-house capacity and policy direction for AI, shaping the environment in which contractors sell AI tools and services to agencies.
