The OPEN Government Data Act, enacted as Title II of the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2018, requires federal agencies to publish their data as open, machine-readable assets by default and to maintain comprehensive data inventories. Open-data obligations must be balanced against the need to protect sensitive and personally identifiable information.
